Trainers and business owners should be aware of the “prestige” of being a trainee in the job market, said Al Jazeera’s Mark Mander.
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), job seekers with less than a four-year college degree are the most likely to be unemployed, while those with a bachelor’s degree are twice as likely to fall into unemployment as those with an associate’s degree.
“What you need to understand is that there’s a lot of job openings out there,” Mander said.
“They’re all advertised on social media and it’s easy to find jobs.”
As well as looking at the number of job opportunities available in their area, job seekers should also consider the “talent” available to them, Mander added.
“If you have a job, and you have an excellent resume, that’s great, but if you don’t, it’s a bit like being a high school student with no college experience,” he said.
In a recent study of 3,000 jobs advertised on job boards across the United States, researchers found that people with no degree were more likely to have jobs advertised.
The study also found that job seekers without a college degree were less likely to get a job.
However, not all job vacancies are created equal, with those looking for a part-time position often finding themselves with an empty position, according to the BLS.
“People who have a bachelor of science degree are going to get the best of the job opportunities, but there are some people who have no degree at all,” Manker said.
